Head of IP Strategy – China at Gowling WLG
Elliot is the Head of IP Strategy – China at Gowling WLG. Elliot has practised intellectual property law on several Continents since 1995 – first in Australia, then Europe, and since 2005 in China. From Gowling WLG’s China offices Elliot now advises international clients on contentious and non-contentious IP matters, with a focus on strategic protection, exploitation, and enforcement of patents, trade marks, copyright as well as trade secrets. He advises on strategies for optimizing IP portfolios across the Asia-Pacific region, as well as cross-border patent, trade mark and copyright disputes. Additionally, Elliot Papageorgiou is former National Chair of the European Chamber's Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Working Group.
Elliot represents numerous Fortune 500 companies and other MNCs on China IP litigation and especially Patent litigation. His client briefs include developing IP strategies for one of Europe's largest VC funds, for global automotive technology companies, global engineering and manufacturing conglomerates, as well as some of Europe’s best-known FMCG and jewellery brands.
Elliot is a native speaker of a number of European languages including German, Serbian, Hungarian and Croatian, as well as being fluent in English. While his Mandarin is improving, it remains firmly a “work in progress”. Elliot is a Solicitor (England & Wales), an Attorney-at-Law (NY), a Barrister & Solicitor (Vic), and a Registered Foreign Lawyer (Hong Kong), with a B.Com. and B.Ec.(Murdoch University, 1991, 1992) L.L.B. Honours (Monash University, 1994) B.C.L. Honours (University of Oxford, 1998).
Elliot has managed a range of complex patent litigations, trade mark and copyright litigations and successfully petitioned and litigated before the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) on numerous occasions.
